About the village...

Karakószörcsök is not a remote place as many people think. It is situated in Hungary, at the foot of Bakony Hills, in Veszprém county, Transdanubia. It lies between the Somló and Ság hills, and Lake Balaton is not far from here, either. On hearing the name ’Karakószörcsök’ some people smile, but few know the meaning of it. The first part of the word ’Karakó’ derives from the Slavic ’Krakov’ or the place-name and hydronym of Krakow. The second part ’szörcsök’ means ’hawthorn’. Thus, translating Karakószörcsök into „Hungarian” is Hawthorn-place. Read more
